§ 02The Server
How to Join
Installing the launcher, finding the server, getting the mods, and what to do if it won't connect.

What you need#
- DayZ on Steam. Nothing else is bought.
- The DZSA Launcher — the free community launcher. It finds the server, installs the mods and keeps them up to date. Get it from its own website; it is not on Steam.
- About the space for the mod collection. It is large — plan for a long first download.
Joining with the DZSA Launcher#
- Open the DZSA Launcher and go to the community server list.
- Search for Escape From DayZ. The server is listed as Escape From DayZ Solo/Duo/Trio, on Chernarus.
- Press Join. The launcher works out which mods the server runs and installs every one of them. The first time this takes a while; after that it only fetches updates.
- Wait for the mods to load and the game to start. DayZ opens straight into the server's queue.
Subscribe once, update forever
The launcher pulls the mods from the Steam Workshop. Subscribing to the server's mod collection as well means Steam keeps them current in the background, so the launcher has less to fetch each time the pack updates.
Joining with the official DayZ launcher#
It works, but it is more manual: subscribe to the mod collection on the Steam Workshop, let Steam download it, then in the DayZ launcher find the server, and load every mod it lists in the order it lists them. Any mod missing or out of date is a kick on connect. The DZSA Launcher does all of this for you, which is why it is the recommended route.
Before your first raid#
- Join the Discord. The rules, the changelog, the tickets and the LFG channels are all there. Staff answer tickets, not in-game chat.
- Read the rules — they are short, and the ones about groups and combat logging are enforced by the server itself.
- Then read Start Here. It's your first hour, in ten steps.
It won't connect#
Most join failures are one of three things. Troubleshooting has the full list.
- A mod is missing or out of date. Restart the DZSA Launcher and join again; it re-checks the list every time.
- The server is restarting. It does so every three hours; wait five minutes. Restart times.
- The queue is full. Keep the launcher waiting — it joins when a slot opens.
